“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
Romans 12:4-8

Open Positions

Executive Director

Location: Tampa, Florida
Type: Full-time
Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Summary

The Underground Network is seeking a catalytic and seasoned leader to step into the role of Executive Director. This role would provide visionary, innovative, servant leadership to our multifaceted organization, including leadership to and with our executive team, staff, our sister movements around the world and our small local network of missionaries and microchurch leaders.

This is the first open search for an Executive Director in our history, marking a pivotal moment of transition, opportunity, and prophetic renewal. We’re looking for a grounded, visionary apostolic leader — someone who carries the heart of a spiritual father/mother, the mind of a strategist, and the courage of a pioneer. They must embody our manifesto and lead with humility, authenticity, and sacrificial love.

This leader will join and help shape a collaborative team environment, taking responsibility for guiding our movement forward in its mission to empower ordinary people to launch and lead missional communities (microchurches) that bring the Kingdom to the forgotten corners of our cities and world.

  • Visionary Leadership & Spiritual Formation

    • Cast and cultivate compelling, prophetic vision rooted in the values of the Underground.

    • Embody and lead with our Manifesto values — not just doctrinally, but incarnationally.

    • Foster apostolic imagination and help the network remain faithful to its missional core.

    • Challenge cultural conformity and safe Christianity with grace and conviction.

    Organizational Strategy & Execution

    • Lead the development and execution of strategic goals that align with our mission.

    • Build systems that foster innovation, clarity, sustainability, and succession.

    • Work yourself out of a job by raising leaders, empowering teams, and building structures for multiplication.

    Staff Leadership & Team Building

    • Hire, develop, and manage staff with a blend of pastoral care and courageous accountability.

    • Lead a team culture marked by vulnerability, spiritual depth, healed wounds, and resilient collaboration.

    • Encourage personal growth, humility, and shared leadership across all levels of the network.

    Communication & Culture Shaping

    • Serve as a public voice for the Underground — compellingly articulate vision, values, and story.

    • Influence internal culture through prophetic truth-telling and hopeful leadership.

    • Communicate consistently and clearly to a wide range of stakeholders: staff, microchurch leaders, donors, and global partners.

    External Relationships & Fundraising

    • Cultivate relationships with external partners, networks, and supporters.

    • Lead or support fundraising efforts, including the pursuit of major gifts, grants, and partnerships.

    • If possible, bring in existing donors or funding relationships.

    • Apostolic Gift: Proven track record of pioneering new works, starting ministries, and sending others.

    • Spiritual Maturity: A spiritual Father/Mother— seasoned, healed, grounded in the way of Jesus.

    • Humble Strength: A leader with both authority and vulnerability; thick-skinned, soft-hearted.

    • Prophetic Voice: Willingness to speak hard truths in love; challenge systems with courage.

    • Cultural Intelligence: Able to lead across cultures and see beyond U.S.-centric paradigms.

    • Global Perspective: Thinks and connects beyond the local context, while rooted in it.

    • Collaborative Posture: Believes deeply in teams, networks, and shared leadership.

    • Good Communicator: Prioritizes clarity and inspiration and vulnerability in their communication style.

    • Fundraiser: Can develop or bring donor support and sustain organizational vision financially.

    • Vision-Driven: Has a history of leading others toward a compelling vision for the future.

    • Authentic & Sincere: Not performative. Not corporate. A real person who bleeds the mission.

    • Agreement with and embodiment of the Underground Manifesto

    • Demonstrated missional life — not just belief in the mission, but a life lived out in it

    • Willingness to relocate to Tampa (or demonstrate exceptional ongoing presence if remote)

    • Commitment to build others up and lead as a servant, not a celebrity
